So today, between the mere 15 page assignment I have due in two days and the buckets of rain that have pouring over everything I own, I have been browsing the web. In this activity I have discovered not one, not two, not three, but FOUR extremely bothersome things in the world. Let me clarify, not much things really give me the chills with bothersome worry. Once I saw get his face punched in, that bothered me. One time I saw a guys eyes roll in the back of his head and his mouth foam with whatever foamy substance comes out when you are ODing on something hardcore, that also bothered me. But today, FOUR things caught my attention, one came from Samoa, one from Toronto, one from Zurich, and one from (I believe Germany).... Perhaps homework can be considered LETHAL in the fact that it forces you (ok, sidetracking isnt forced, but who actually focuses for more than one hour at a time?) to discover things that you would be perfectly happy not knowing about.
1. Samoa... a small island in the South Pacific that I discovered today is actually U.S territory has been struck by an awful earthquake. As much as I have been trying to avoid current events in the world while I've been here so I can stay in my ignorant wee bubble, things just keep occuring that are too important to miss. So yeah, Samoa. At least 77 dead, 8.0 richter earthquake, and New Zealand apparently had tsunami warnings this morning. Freaky. Oh world, you do scare me sometimes.
2. Toronto: This is why I sometimes hate Hollywood, and pretentious actors who believe they know what is right in all matters of the world. I was earlier reading some film critics blog about how Tel Aviv was recognized by recieving the city-to-city award in the Toronto film festival due to its recent contributions to the contemporary film world (The bands visit, Waltz with Bashir, I cant think of any others, etc. etc). Of course actors such as Jane Fondo and unfortunately my love Viggo Mortenson protested this due to the recent war crimes Israel committed. While my stance on the political issue in Israel does not matter at all, the question remains, why cant filmmakers be recognized from the region? Since when did a "feature" film maker ever be held representative for thier countries politics. C'Mon Hollywood assholes, film is a means of freedom of expression, and when was the last time you have seen an Israeli film that puts Israeli government in a purely positive light. If you actually sat down and watched "Waltz with Bashir" you'd realize that the film actually takes a harsh perspective on the Israeli government due to the severe mental affects on the soldiers. I hope to never blamed for entering a country unlawfully and starting a war for reasons unknown, and I never hope to held accountable for being one of the only countries evil enough to drop a nuclear bomb over a bustling populated city. Come people, wake up and unite through film(its corny, but could be true, maybe?). Stop perpetuating the situation, if Israeli and palistinean filmmakers can respect eachothers work, then surely American actors (not even makers, yes actors) can as well. Jane, I'd expect this from you,but Viggo come on you are better than this.
3. Zurich: Roman Polanski was arrested for rape of a THIRTEEN year old. AHHHHHH. For those of you who dont know Roman Polanski is director who has created some pretty sweet movies (The Pianist anyone?) So at the Zurich film festival he was arrested in very public eyes due to an alleged rape that happened in the 70's in America. RANDOM, I know. BTW, he's now 76... Sorry Grampy, but treat those kiddies with respect.
Men, why do you feel the need to rape small children? Especially if you are famous.. i cant bring myself to understand.
...So of course Hollywood is up in arms starting a petition to set Roman Polanski free due to his (random) arrest. 'Screw the fact that he raped a pre-teen, hes Roman Polanski', says Woody Allen. (woody didnt say that, I made it up). But Woody did sign the petition, which made me LOL , oh woody!
4. Oh, German cinema, or American Cinema, or just fucked up cinema in general. Someone literally took the phrase, 'Ass to mouth' too literally when writing this script.I cant decide if im secretly happy or truly utterly disturbed that this idea even exists. Is is weird that I am curious enough to want to see it? Is it true 3 people can be connected by thier gastrointestines from ass to mouth and survive? *shudder*. Gross, but interesting to say the least.... but probably a fact that if it never surfaced, would never enter my brain. The first comment under the preview for this on youtube was 'human life failure', it made me chuckle.

Final break post: Nelson, Franz Josef, Wanaka, the open road

Our very packed trunk

They have really intense anti-driving drunk campaigns here... pretty hilarious!
We stayed at my neighbor Olivia's house after Abel tasman. It was so awesome! Her house was so AWESOME! View of sunset from her kitchen window.
More Nelson sunset

Our awesome hosts. Made me miss my mother though! :)
Her house
I thought this was interesting. Are these sushi carts common?
During the LONG drive from Franz Josef we saw the best sunset.

Our hostel in Franz josef. This was probally after we got pulled over with no WOF or Reg and got away like bandits.

Franz Josef glacier from afar
Group shot
again

One of the best parts of the glacier was the waterfalls surrounding the glacier
It was just a little bit dirty

I literally had to stand here for like 20 minutes while our guide cut out a path. I was soaking wet and did not think I was going to make it. When I finally came out I was shaking like a leaf.

Group in an ice cave
Our guide Cliff.

View from the highways ... perfect

Sorry guys, im never coming home
We really love Ricardo.
We saw a fire right outside of Wanaka
Then there was this helicopter with a little bucket attached to put it out.
Wanaka view.

Spring break post 3: Abel Tasman
Abel Tasman took up the majority of our trip... it was a hike along the ocean.

Day one of Abel Tasman. A really awesome tramp/hike we did during our break for four days. Weather was perfect minus one day where it rained a little, but overall couldnt have asked for a better time.

Mainly we got veiws of beaches since we did the coastal route.

Sweet forest we strolled through

One of the many swing bridges, I have encountered in NZ.

Dingy river... seemed more attractive in the thumb nail

The allusion of hut one in the distance....

Dinner cooking the first night.....burritosssss obvi!

Hutt 2 (awaroa) aka the best hut of the trip

We decided to be extra hardcore and cooked spaghetti on a cooking rock over the first we made ourselves... BADASS would ya say???

We went a bit loopy waiting for the estuary to go back in...

Crossing estuaries was my favorite part of the trip. The cold water actually became a staple to ease the itching of bugbites that surrounded our feet/ ankles. Although mid-way through the tramp my urge to cross an estuary caused a friend (ellen) and myself to climb an extra mountain.....Now we are getting more badass....

Kitchen table of hut 2.

love love love

Lunch feast

this is a shot from the extra mountain we climbed. pretty Sound of Music-esque.

Day 2: sunset tramp=WickAWESOME

Group shot after we finished!

Plus matt....

Salvation=water taxis

Which took us around the area to a baby seal colony...sweeet

Sweet rock structure that people actually get married under... but they need to beat the tide.
Then our water taxi got hauled out of the water by a water tractor.....only in New Zealand
