Hello,
So I have been in NZ for about a week now. I am very anxious for school to start at this point because the lull in activities is starting to make my body go into a relaxing vacation gelatin mold mode.
San Diego was cool. Went to the Zoo. Went to Sea world. Went to the Beach. Ate burritos. Drank wine. The end. Good times.
Orientation was much better than I could have expected. We went to Rotorua on the north Island. Went caving which included repelling into an 80 foot narrow cave and zipling through a pitch black cave that was perhaps the most beautiful thing I had ever seen (when the lights were turned on.) We also learned the Haka dance which is an interesting Maori greeting (not a war dance like it appears.) I reccomend you Youtube it. The video of our group doing it will be posted at some point.
Now, Dunedin (my home). Its cold and rainy. I think its rained every single day I have been in New Zealand. But only for a bit, then it gets sunny (interesting.) My flat is probally the biggest college apt. I have every seen. Its three stories and our rooms are massive and the bottom floor is a living room and kitchen. Its lovely! I live with 5 people; one kiwi, one danish guy, one French guy, and 2 americans (boy and girl.) Everything seems good thus far. I went to the cadbury chocolate factory yesterday which was unexpectedly hilarious! For those from UMass, I ran into Brett Steele at the grocery store randomly and I have been hanging out with him for a few days. Keep me posted on your lives with emails and such.
Much love,
Kirsten
